Why would you want it to grow?

I think moss prefers damp, shady conditions, which it probably had prior to you cutting back old plant growth.

:) Hi rob, moss gardens were a favourite of the Japanese & they did make some beautiful ones.. You will need plenty of shade though & moisture..... But never need a mower again..!!!!!! Here are a few images of some little beauties..

Marley those gardens are beautiful. Who would have thought it? I always liked the stones that were covered in moss near my pond. I think I may make some moss soup to get the moss growing on my bonsai tree. That was a very interesting read :thku:

Most moss gardens need the conditions that Marley has told you and require quite a bit of care. Lovely pictures, Marley.

Having said that, we have an area approx 750 sq ft that is about 6" deep in moss and is in full sun and south facing . We didn't make it like that and it was, originally, just grass. It now has no more than 10% grass and weeds.

Stagshaw gardens near Ambleside have a large moss area (or had - as I haven't been there for some years).

.... and the birds love it at nesting time. Unfortunately they make quite a mess at that time of year :(
