can someone explain????

    what is the trench method for growing runner beans??? do i dig now for next year and start filling or should i wait till next year??? very confused.LOL situation normal there then.....

    Hi Em

    I don't think the timing is critical for runners

    The idea is to dig out a trench and put in as much moisture retaining material as possible as runners like water [​IMG] some put grass clippings in, newspaper, horse manure, garden compost, old brassica stems...anything that will hold moisture and fill in with soil...then grow your runners over this

    I suppose it would, have you tried alderman peas? grow as tall as runners!

    thanks steve, will get digging and filling lol. will also try alderman peas as not very successful with short ones thanks to next doors cat, who will soon be a muff!!!lol
