hi can someone tell me what this plant is called please? iv never seen anything like it before

The name escapes me at the moment, but I think its a root parasite.

 

It is a broomrape (Orobanche) as Pete said a root parasite. More info on http://bioref.lastdragon.org/Magnoliophytina/Orobanche.html

 

I am not convinced it is broomrape.

I have a perenial plant with similar flowers, followed by greyish kidney shaped leaves.
Have gone completely blank on what it is called though.
