Can verbena rigida be propagated by division?

I bought a verbena (Rigida) Santos last year. This year it was slow to get going, but came up well. It has flowered reliably throughout the summer, and seems to be coming up a long way from the original planting location. I’m wondering if I can divide it, or take root/basal cuttings? And if so, the best time to do so?

 

No problem to divide it, Sian. It can be very invasive and each stem will come up with a fair length of root. It's more of a problem stopping it from running everywhere!

 

Sounds like the perfect plant for me then! I find that unless a plant is really, really determined to grow, it just curls up its toes and dies in the soil here...

I will get out there and divide away tomorrow.
