We have a very small garden (5mx5m with a small side return yard) so we're struggling for space to put one bin, let alone 2. So, can it be done with just one bin? The types I'm looking at are the ones with a door at the bottom to collect the completed compst.

Daisybelle,I'm sure you will have no problem.
My Dad has a similar sized plot as you and uses that type of bin too.
    I have a 1/4 acre and use 4,but I do compost everything. ;)

Great news, thanks! So does he just take it out of the bottom as it's ready and keep chucking stuff in the top?

Yes, at the begining, once he had a nice blend, he took out scoops to top up pots and always has a decent amount for the Autumn mulch. Over Winter he builds up a good bin full of 'greens' from the weekley market where he lives and in Spring he's away again..Got it down to a fine art, as my old man [IMG]

Daisy, as Pal says, they work fine. I've got one. The first season you don't get too much but after that they're great. I got enough out of mine, in the Autumn to put a 1" layer over the (small) garden I've got. good luck [IMG]
