According to folklore, tonight's full Moon is the "Wolf Moon," named long ago by Native Americans after the singing packs of wolves they heard during the winter month of January. After nightfall, go outside for a beautiful view--and don't forget to listen carefully, too. Cameras at the ready.

    Hi Terrier,

Glad you said that, just went out for a look & saw a big bank of mist sat in the valley below, all illuminated by the moonlight.

Took a pic but the camera just didn't catch it.

No Wolves, nearest one I know of lives in Bridport & i'm at home tonight. He really does howl at the moon though, sends a shiver down your doobrie.

Yes, there really is a beautiful moon tonight Terrier.
It is shining straight into my conservatory and looks gorgeous.
Where are those fantastic photographers who can capture that stuff ?
And Venus is fantastic too - bright enough to cast a shadow.

Long time ago when I was a nurse on the night shift we always seemed to notice that patients were even more confused when there was a full moon - lunatics so to speak.
We paid for a researcher to come in and document the facts.
The research showed no difference from any other night - but we never believed that :D

Just a quick shot and not best quality I'm afraid.
Full moon doesn't photograph particularly well due to the lack of shadows in craters and on mountains.

I'm keeping a low profile tonight, not engaging with any arguements.

When I worked on the mushroom farm, the full moon used to drag the mushrooms up, they would crop like nothing else, but I think i've mentioned that before so i'll shut up now before i bore anyone.[hr]
Wow that is some picture Dave, well done Sargent :dbgrtmb:

When Mrs W and I were still working in schools it was always reckoned that a full moon and a windy day would result in howls and trouble in the playground :heehee:

:) Now, that's just being a showoff Dave ... How can I even dare put my pics up tomorrow ... ? Absolutely fantastic .. xx

Two nights ago we had the most fantastic ring around the moon but I could not get it into view on the Fuji and by the time I got the Kodak together and it's wide-angled lens, the moment was gone .... :cry3:

Terrier, not sure about the wolves, but the shepherd went beyond the orchard with his goats and the dogs were barking keeping them off the road and, in general, living in the country we always have howling dogs ...

Doesn't it make you feel so small when you look at such ...

PS The Smilies don't work when you edit ... doh!

Excellent photo Dave, wish I'd seen this thread before posting my Moon photo in the 'other' Moon Tonight thread.

:WINK1: don't know about 'howls' but there are plenty of 'owls' about at the moment! they love the moon - great for hunting trips and they are usually on the look out for a mate in spring...nothing like a moonlight hoot seranade! :loll:
AND yes - working in a hospital on nights does give food for thought on a full moon eve - say no more!!! and lock up yer mushroom shed!
Methinks tonight might just do a bit of moonwalking....much more fun than tv.!

we got A OWL around here too. Saw it in daylight a few weeks back, lovely.

I was a grower, not a picker on the mushroom farm, but on full moons, all the growing staff were conscripted as pickers.

Started picking at 6am, took till 6pm to get from one end of the tunnel to the other. When I looked at where i'd started, they had grown big enough to pick again.
