Can you identify this little tree/shrub please?

I bought a house with a very neglected garden a couple of years ago. I have identified most plants except for this one. Identification has defeated my family, neighbours and all passing gardeners. I would love to know what it is so that I can care for it properly. It is 8 foot tall, deciduous and has pretty little dark pink flowers in spring followed by attractive red berries. The pigeons love stripping the new growth! Thank you all for reading this and I look forward to receiving your suggestions.

 

Hi MonaLisa, it looks very much like Weigela, but I'd be surprised if no-one had identified that!

 

Thank you Noisette. Having ploughed through my books I did wonder if it is weigela but I didn't want to brutalise it in ignorance. I'm surprised no-one local identified it but I do live in Norfolk!

Hello Silver Surfer, Thank you so much for your help and links. Looking at it again, it does look more like a Lonicera rather than weigela. However, both are pruning group 2 which is the important thing and now I can give it the care it deserves. Very kind of you to say that it is a "very fine" specimen, it does need tlc. Thank you again (by the way, I used to have lovely childhood holidays with my grannie who stayed in Lochearnhead).
