Can you suggest something suitable?

Hi

We have a fence at the back of our garden which has a couple of very straggly trees growing next to it.

I hope to turn this area into a potential wildlife corner - we will have bird feeders, a bird bath (old belfast sink attatched to the fence) and a bee nesting box there.

In the soil infront of the trees I have planted bluebells/snowdrops and scattered wildlfower seeds, so hoping some of them will take.

I would like to plant some kind of climber there to make the fence area a bit prettier.

I would like it to grow well, but not completely cover the fence - I still want some light to get in.

Flowers would be good if poss (to look nice and attract insects/birds etc) if not then leaves that have some interest to them...evergreen would be fab too.

The soil is ok (ish, very ish) but there are a lot of well established tree roots so not sure how that affects things? (I might not be able to make the deepest hole ever to plant it if I want it next to the fence).

I'm not sure what direction the fence is in (ie north facing etc), sorry, but I can say that if we get any sun it is in sun till about 2/3 pm at which point the area becomes shaded.

It can get pretty cold here (still getting frosts) so it would need to be very hardy too.

If you can suggest anything (open to any plant at all..ivy..climbing roses..anything) it would be very helpful, thank you!

What about the climbing rose - Rosa Moyesii Geranium?

I'm getting one soon for a fence I want to cover and this rose likes any aspect, any soil and is very hardy!!
