i have decided to grow something up the front of both chicken runs.

a friend suggested canary creeper and i now have some seeds. how would be best to plant them? straight in the ground or would they benefit from being started off in a pot and/or a propogator?

    thanks.

Hello JPS , I grew these a few years ago , it is a very nice climber. It will need something to cling to though. I planted mine 1/4" deep in seed compost in a little propogator at room temperature on a windowsill, they germinated in about 8 to 11 days. Plant them out around the middle of May. :dbgrtmb: I found that they self seeded for a few years but the last cold winter killed them off.

oh ok then, i was planning to bung them in the ground this weekend, good job i asked then.
i probably should have said, the chicken runs are both made of 1" weld mesh so they can climb up that ( i would think its ok?) i do need to think of someway to stop the chickens eating all the shoots but a board against the mesh should accomplish that for now.

Germination can be a little hit and miss if the seed has been hanging around is all that I would add.

oic, i got them off an ebay seller so who knows.

i think i should try 3-4 in individual pots in the propogator then and see what germinates?
