Hi all. Bought a canary palm last summer. As expected it did very little outside and just about survived the winter but looks a bit bedraggled now. Wondered whether i could transfer the plant indoors and have it as an indoor plant being as its not too hardy. Wondered whether this was a good idea and whether i could cut back the brown parts of the foliage and let it regrow? Any advice appreciated.

My first thoughts are that it will not do well as a house plant.
It really is only tender at around minus 3C or so, as long as the frost is not prolonged.

The best way to grow it, unless you are near the coast, is in a sheltered spot, or outside in summer and frost free in winter, with minimal heat.

Its a difficult one if you dont have a greenhouse.

For indoors Pheonix robelenii is a bit more suitable.

I have given up with Phoenix canaryensis.
They seem to be one of those plants that don't fit in well - outside is too cold over winter, but if you bring them indoors, they struggle.

There are other Palms that do better, with less fuss.

I am trying Phoenix theophrasti, and so far has been ok, with some minimal leaf damage over its first winter, but I did fleece it.
