Mine have gone quite brown and limp in the frost- should I wrap fleece round pots or bring them into the greenhouse?

We dig them up and take them into the greenhouse after first cutting back the foliage. We store ours in boxes of compost with no added fertilisers. They won't stand any frost,so we always put them under cover. Not sure about covering them with fleece. We have never tried it ourselves

In your part of the country, Liz, I'd expect them to survive the winter outside, ideally mulched over a bit. That's what I did in Hemel - first I tidied them back, then covered them over. I know plenty of people who didn't bother doing that, and they came up year after year, more and more of them...

I used to dry them off and bring them in the greenhouse, I know they tend to survive outside most years but to get early flowers you need to divide and grow on in the greenhouse next spring.
I have left them in the ground until late Feb and lifted and divived then, but it can be a messy operation on my clay soil, in Feb.

Pete, you are lucky to let cannas to be left in the ground in winter. I tried that last year and they simply gave up the ghost. this year I have taken them in.
Pete has real green fingers, Dendy.

COVERED MY 5 BANANA PLANTS with fleece 2 days before the frost.

I'll take mine into the greenhouse to be on the safe side. I don't trust the weather in Wilts, and I definitely haven't got Pete's talents!
