On my shopping therapy trip today to the monthly market, I discovered this beautiful Canna ... which needless to say followed me home!

The pictures were taken with two different camers so the colour is different  ... the flowers are quite orchid coloured. I don't know the name of it.

Now that is SERIOUSLY gorgeous! I love the striped and picotee forms of lots of flowers. Better than the plain colours, quite often.

Colour difference isn't down to the camera, I don't think. In the top pic the camera has worked out the exposure from a mix of the flowers and the darker tones in the leaves etc. giving a longer exposure time. As a result, the flowers have "burnt out" a bit. Burning out lightens the colour.

The second pic, in close-up, didn't give the camera such a problem - the flowers set the exposure time with no need for a compromise...

The second pic is also not in full sun, which also causes exposure problems. Perfect conditions for photographing flowers are hazy sun - so subdued light - and as plain a background as you can manage. (Did you see my orchids in "Other plants - Orchids and Bilbergia"? Window-sill on a dull day!!!)

Hi it looks like a Tropical yellow acording to my Jungle seeds brochure, a short one to 3ft quickly spreading for multiple flower head displays. [IMG]

Thanks Hy. It was the only one she had.

Both pictures were taken in full blindingly bright sunlight, so much so I had difficulty focusing. The second one was taken on t'other halfs new 6 megapixel camera, mine on the old 3. As you said before, I need to be living next door to you for my camera lessons. [IMG]

No, sorry, I haven't looked but will do so.

TO, thank you for that info. Yes, it's short and already has seven stems with an eigth developing and the three flower head displays.

I thought it was too good to pass us for €6 (about Ã?£4 for those who can't convert).

If the second one was in full sun, the camera's done very well! There's usually so much contrast that you get bits burnt out even in close-ups - maybe digital cameras handle that better than film, perhaps. I'll have to experiment a bit!!!

I have a similar one too but it is Sunny Delight(from Jungle seeds tuber last year)
This is it from last year, the difference is that the leaves have a slight yellow veining otherwise the flowers look alike. This one sets seed readily.

Evening, strongy. Yes, yours does look similar, but now we are into camera colour ...

One stem of mine has another stem starting below the flowering head like it's going to be another flowering head ?????

Whatever, it's most incredible and t'other half thought I brought a monstrous orchid home ...

I think I'm becoming a Canna freak ... I have my Brilliant (short three footer, clear red, bright green leaves), my taller peach-coloured one, my yet to bloom Lucifer (yellow with red edges?) and now this one.

I'll put the peach one up tomorrow or whenever to see if someone can identify it.

Fantastic flowers ... if anyone wants seeds at the appropriate time ...

I have had Lucifer for many years and divide it annually. It doesn't set seed here. I have been given Durban, the bronze and red stripey one and have just bought a yellow stripped one who's name I have forgotten. I also have Pretoria and Verdi, most of these are kept at work as I haven't the room for all of them in the garden here.
Sunny Delight produced about 20 seeds last year, I sowed 12 in December and they have produced a spike of flowers already, they are now on one of the roundabouts.

Your job must be very rewarding for you, strongy, that you create such beauties for others to enjoy.

Can anyone identify my peach Canna, please ...

Not sure yet LoL, with so many cultivars apearing all the time it's hard to keep track of them and some with different names can look identical. Like Bougainvilleas positive IDing is difficult.
