I've just discovered that DPP 3.11.31 was released by Canon in June. This most recent version is a marked improvement on earlier versions and has added facilities including those for compositing and creating HDR images. The interface looks improved too. I've not tried it yet though have downloaded it from this Canon site >

Canon (USA) also have online video tutorials on how to use DPP and they are quite good too. The tutorials on DPP 3.11 are here >

I looked dave but didn't comment as It's all foreign language to me at the moment but very willing to learn. I've signed up to Stevens course as its the first dslr I've had and I want to be able to use it as its intended to be used.

Not a waste of time at all Dave

Worth a look, but of no interest to a non cannon user (but nosey)
My bad as I had already commenced Steves course, and did not think
to post my thanks to your heads up after the event Sorry

No worries Jack. I think canon users are a bit thin on the ground on GC. The main reason I posted was because updates to the canon software are easy to miss unless you check on the canon site and the latest release was a significant update on the previous version.

My apologies to Dave as I use Nikon at the moment but hoping to return to Cannon in the future but I still should have acknowledged your informative post:)

Hi Dave, although I'm a canon man myself, I always use other software that that bundled with the camera.

But it is always worth posting about though as someone may get use of the info.

I thought you used Photoshop Dave anyway?

            Steve...:)

            Hi Steve
Sorry for delayed response but just home after 5 days in the Cairngorms (wet and cold days!!)
Yes I do use PS but do my initial conversion RAW-jpg and any initial cropping in DPP.
For anyone new to Canon DSLRs and who doesn't, at least initially, want to splash out an arm and a leg on PS or similar I reckon the latest release of DPP is a pretty good package.
I've just had a quick try out of the new HDR facility in DPP and it seems pretty good and while it doesn't provide all the bells, lights and twiddly bits that Photmatix Pro does it seems to do a reasonably good job.

Loch Morlich. Three bracketed exposures HDRd in DPP and then moved to PS as TIFF file for removal of a couple of spots of lens flare before reduction in size and saving as jpeg.
(Could have been sharper but exposures were hand held)

Hi Dave, lovely shot that is mate, I just adore reflections!

Adobe have updated their HDR capability in PS CS6, so I'm hoping to get into the lakes next week to grab a few sets of shots to test it out.

Looks like DPP has done well, nice 'n clear, no gaudy colours and no haloing either. Cant wait to see a few more! Nudge nudge wink wink !

              Steve...:)
