I can't open any photos in 'my docs' all I get is File System Error -805305975.
I thought maybe a corupted sd card but it won't open photos already on there or from another sd card. Any (non technical) suggestions?

      Hi,

Probably not the cause, but worth checking if yours has been updated to version 1809 as its known that it can delete files and folders !! though the latest release should have sorted it ..?

Click Settings, About, to show which version you have. probably v1803 or 1809

Do you make backups of your Docs / Photos ??

Otherwise its likely an actual disk error which you can start to try and check / recover using one or both of these methods.

The simpler one, in File Explorer Right Click on Local Drive C: ( if thats where your Docs are)
That brings up a menu, at the bottom, left click Properties and that opens another window, so click on Tools, you will then see a box for Error Checking, just click on the Check box and it should check your drive, it might take some time ..

Another slightly more complex way, though usually more thorough, is to use CHKDSK as this link shows.
FIX: File System Error (-2018375670) on Windows 10 - Appuals.com

It may be able to recover some data for you but you my find some photos are lost.

If you get lots of errors it may indicate your hard drive is failing, but see what the above reveals first before panicking :yikes: :)

Thanks @ricky101, I'll give it a try, the laptop is about a year old so I hope the hard drive is not failing! Nearly all of the pics are backed up.

I imagine you are ‘double-clicking’ the files you want to open? I think I’m right in saying that by doing this it will try to open using a default program. It might be worth ‘right-clicking’ on said files so that you can choose the program to try to open.
          Just a thought.

If the above fails try system restore.

Being computer illiterate I couldn't follow some of the suggestions but I did try @martin-f 's system restore one as seemed an easy one to try! It has worked so something in the last week had altered but thanks for all the help.
