.....I know I like some snow and frost in the winter, it wouldn't be a winter without it, but I wish it had come a little earlier this time. I'm itching to get out there and get the veg patch ready for this year, but unless I hire a 'jack hammer' :D I'm not doing any digging for yet a while :(, although we've only had a couple of really hard frosts, over a week of light to moderate frosts has been enough to turn the ground in to something resembling a good quality concrete . Unfortunately there's no end in sight just yet, we're still forecast frosts; although light, for the next 4 nights....:wallbang: :D

Ah well, I do have my Canna seeds to get in, checked my diary from last year and it was the middle of Feb I put them in so I'll keep myself entertained with those for the mean time....:) :D

I sympathise. I am itching to get out and start doing stuff in the garden. I've already bought or ordered seven new shrubs and am planning to re-jig all my borders, so lots to do but can't get at it [IMG]

It's warmer here today and not forecast to go below freezing for the next few nights (and rain by Monday). Let's hope that's the end of it!

      Bring on March!

Still plenty of things that can be done in my garden (any volunteers? :heehee:) but my old bones don't want to stay out in the cold.

I'm way behind schedule .... I'm even starting to work on my wife's nerves and winding her up constantly due to boredom .... lots to do, but weather does not permit

my 1st batch of palms arrive today, together with a T-rex from the palm house .... more shrubs/plants on it's way and should get another delivery tommorow

have to store them at home for a couple of weeks before planting them out

am trying to buy as many of the 'expensive' plants and shrubs while prices are still low .... in 2-3 weeks time, prices will double/treble

it's going to be a mad rush in a few weeks time .... everybody wants things done 'yesterday' ... cannot even prepare the beds yet ... ground is frozen solid

I'm not too bothered about not being able to start things off. They always seem to catch up through the spring. :)

            Shiney is right!
But I do start my Datura off early (January), and any time is a good time to start off slow germinators such as Alstromeria, Moraea, Gloriosa, Sandersonia etc.........
And those that need cold stratification such as Impatiens balfouri, Aconitum, Tricyrtis and Fuchsia can be sown and put in the fridge now.

I try to leave most seed sowing to around the 1st of March , except my Cannas and Chillis which do need a long growing season. But with just building myself a little light box , I have planted some Bacopa to test out early sowing, in my new toy !:yess:
