    Hi Capney,

They look absolutely gorgeous. All the produce on here of late has definitely got me going to do something next year.

I get a greenhouse later this week and will need everyones good ideas.

    Well done

capney: they look very good - the red ones aren't as strong I think, very nice in a salad :thumb:

Claire - why not ask for some practical gardening books for Xmas? The Vegetable and Herb Expert by D.G. Hessayon is the best around in my opinion.

Cheers chuck, will copy and paste it to my ongoing chrissy list. ( Hope you still don`t mind me bugging for advice aswell though)

I actually have an excellent book-excellent not just for its practical advice, but for its extremely quaint and unintentional humour.

It is the ABC of vegetable gardening by Shewell or Sheldon or something (not at hand and unsure of name), full of black and white pictures of a person illegitimate child trenching or double digging or harvesting in a full three piece suit, having a "rare old time". It is one of the best gardening books I have ever read to be honest because it is so "English".

Todays harvest was a few toms first thing before the rains
And just enough carrots for tea. Not the best looking, but I know for sure they will taste good.

Reminds me of the old black & white "Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing" booklets me Dad used to have which I must of read dozens of times when I was a kid. The pictures were beautifully illustrated with the pipe smoking true English gent dispensing wisdom, it now seems like from a bygone much gentler age:

Ooops sorry capney, I'm off at a complete tangent with the last post. I had about the same number of home grown carrots with me lunch today along with 4 toms out the greenhouse, the taste of home grown stuff is superb!
