Hi everyone,I had a flower arrangement brought for me last week as a Birthday prezzie. In the large pot was a pepper plant Capsicum Annum with peppers of different colours on the plant.

When Mr Kandy saw them he thought it was great that there would be some peppers to eat but when i rang my friend to thank her and told her about the peppers and what Mr Kandy had said she replied that there was a label attached to the plant which when we read it said' Capsicum Annum..Ornamental pepper for pots or sunny position in the garden'

Underneath in big letters it said.DO NOT EAT- for decorative use only.:(

What we would like to know if anyone out there knows, are these peppers sprayed with anything{even though it is a living plant and the peppers are going wrinkly} and why can't they be eaten. Also if we can't eat the peppers can we save the seed for next year?

I think the nursery might have sprayed them with some bug stuff, but not too sure about it.That is the only thing I can think of.

Any help would be most appreciated as it will be a shame to have to throw the plant out when it starts to die down...Thanks:)

:thumb: Kandy, Some Capsicum Annum are NOT edible... You need to find out what kind of capsicum annum it is.. The edible ones are usually very very hot as well...... If you look on this list you will see what I mean about edible & in-edible...!!!!!!

:) Ooh I say Kandy.. It is a handsome looking plant. Shame about it being decorative..!!! :) I don't see why you couldn't try sowing some of the seed ... After it is a very attractive plant, make nice pot plants for your conservatory...!;):)

I wouldn't throw it away Kandy...as we had one given to us last year, and from virtually nothing left in the pot it grew and flowered and produced peppers again this year.:thumb:

(as a house plant of course)

Hi Marley and Tweaky, don't know whether it will survive until next year because the leaves are going limp and the peppers are going wrinkly. The pot is quiet heavy because of the plants, compost and glass chippings on the top so have been watering it and might have over done it:o:(

Imight have to dismantle it and see what I can salvage before it goes too far, andsee if I can get some seeds from off of the ripe red peppers.:)

I have just bought some bulbs this afternoon{Narcissus Manly}which I thin will look quiet nice in the pot so all is not lost:D

Thank you both for your help and advice:thumb:

Ooops should have taken the mug shot away before I took the photo:o:p:D
