got some bad news my car had problems starting it this morning got it started and went out and there was an awful smell of petrol anyway i got the AA out and apparently the job that the renault garage did, didnt do the job properly so its got a fuel leak on the injection rail area, AA classed it as not drivable and he said im very lucky that the car didnt go up in flames.
AA called the garage were i bought the car and hes mad with the renault dealer that worked on my car hes calling them on monday and the AA is towing the car back to the garage, ive e-mailed that renault dealer and told them they have put my life in great danger and they will get the AA Breakdown Report.
im most upset and annoyed about all this they didnt even tighten a pipe connected to the engine injection area.
will keep you posted about what happens after monday

Omg that's awful glad you're ok. That could've been very nasty indeed I've seen how quick a car can go up in flames without help of the fuel too.

Can you still reject the car?

I feel for you with this saga, to me there have been a catalog of mechanical problems but also some dangerous ones, the courtesy car without a spare and now this.

It is really disgusting that they could let a repair out without double checking everything particularly when you consider the premium dealerships charge.

hi little miss roadrage and pro-gard, this situation is getting ridiculous now, ive seen it on telly someones car going up in flames on a motorway sure it was the same problem. ive been told that iff i dont want the car they will take it back and i could pick another one, but honestly thought that renault garage had fixed the problem not, they will get it in the morning, the AA is picking it up and towing it back to them and they are getting told to fix it and straight away not like the last time when they had it nearly 3 weeks.
garage were i bought it he said it will have to be taken back to that garage as he paid a lot of money to them so its got to go back to them, ive e-mailed that renault garage and give them a bit of my mind and told them they have put my life in danger, so lets see what they have to say, will let you know the outcome tommorow, that last time it got me down now its starting all over again.

hi pippa, i drove the car into our local town and people could smell the fuel they even told me that something wasnt right, then went off to local shops and could still smell it on and off so decided to call the AA just aswell i did with the outcome or i could of still driven it and it could of burst into flames, quite a frightening thought, AA even called the garage and told them its not drivable.

get your money back rosa, the garage where you got the car from is still responsible regardless of who did the repair work.

i'm just glad the car didnt catch fire with you and your family in it.

Glad that the AA guy is backing you up with that kind of support - re paperwork etc. They owe you big time Rosa - not just in terms of repairing the vehicle and in speedy time, but there has to be some compensation for the fact that you purchased a new vehicle, and you have had it for less time than the garage has! Let us know what the dealer says about your email to them. Glad you and family are safe though :)

 Hi rosa, that is dreadful...!!!! I think if it were me & there was an offer of money back, I would go for that offer... How can you ever be happy with that car, now, when in the short space of time you have had it, it seems to have spent more of it in the garage...!!!! When you finally get it back your life is put in danger because of a trained mechanics sloppy workmanship...!!!
No I would want some serious recompense or another car...!!!! I don't think I could ever feel I could be confident it wouldn't carry on causing trouble......!!
Get the AA report & see what they are saying, but I certainly would not be happy with that kind of service... It is not your fault or caused by you, so it is of no consequence how much it may be costing the dealer... :old: Stand firm rosa..!!

Hi Rosa. I'm sorry to hear about your latest car troubles. You must have the patience of a saint, If I was in your position I'd have decided by now that enough was enough and I'd be rejecting the car.

Regardless of what the man at the garage you bought it from says, you can still take it back and demand a full refund. If he refuses, you can revert to a very useful piece of law called the Sale of Goods act 1990 (as amended). Under that particular law, you as the buyer are protected from exactly this sort of thing. The important point to know is that as the goods (the car in this case) are not fit for their intended purpose or of serviceable quality (it you can't use it safely), the seller is in breach of the contract of sale. As the contract has been breached by the seller, YOU get to choose between repair, replacement or refund. The only exception being when a repair or replacement is not practical, the seller can refuse repair or replacement, leaving just the refund option.

The garage that sold you the car doesn't need to lose out. He also has a contract of sale with the Renault dealer, where he is the buyer (of goods and services - the repair of the car and replacement of faulty parts), and the Renault stealer is the seller. He can use the same law (Sale of Goods act) to recover the money he paid to them for the failed repair. Additionally, he can use the small claims procedure to recover any reasonable losses that arise from their incompetence, for example he can claim for time spent dealing with the situation and possibly for rental of the courtesy car he lent you while they were supposedly fixing your car.

The legal route is a bit of hassle both for you and the garage, which is why the garage is trying to avoid giving you a refund, but you must ask yourself, do you still have faith in the car and the garages that are supposed to have made it good? Would a bit of time spent writing letters and potentially submitting your case to the small claims court be any more hassle than repeatedly pestering garages to sort your car?

Whatever route you go down, I really hope it all gets sorted soon, this must be really stressful and frustrating for you. Good luck.

The lose pipe begs the question as to the quality of the rest of the repair work they carried out.

I don't think you will get anything from the Renault dealership that repaired it other than an apology or perhaps the offer of a free service...... considering their incompetence not a great offer!!!

As i say personally i would reject it and look again, a hastle but your current vehicle obviously has issues and you have had nothing but bad service from both the dealership and the garage that sold it. My worry would be if yet more problems crop up after the warranty.

I think clueless is spot on Rosa. Don't get into the in's and out's of 'pipes' or whatever problems have arisen....A refund is the only option I would go for.... and the suggestion of the car accidentially catching fire on their forecourt if things are not sorted pronto!
