    Hi,

We have reversing sensors on our car which give an audible distance alarm that works well for us.

Now have the option to add a reversing camera to our new car stereo screen.

However wondering how good they are in practice, in that does the dashboard screen display distract one away from physically looking backwards and then missing things ?

Has it caused you to bump into anything you would probably have seen if physically looking backwards or has it actually saved you from harm ?

They are brilliant but there is nothing to stop you from looking too! In fact, you should, and check your mirrors as well. You cannot have too many observations.

My BIL reversed into another car the other day, he has reversing cameras, it just didn't show the towbar that he has.

I've got those sensors and I find them handy most of the time but often unnerving as they keep bleeping when often you are miles away from something.
I was in a builders yard with my previous car and I reversed into the corner of a stack of aluminium, the sensors never picked it up for some reason.

Technology is ok, but if you still have to look and make sure its ok behind anyway you have to wonder, is it worth it.
      Which is my point.

I have a reversing camera, built in, and it is good. It not only shows a good picture (if you keep it clean) but has warning colour bars from orange, to thin red, to thick red - and then a scream :loll:

Its a bit like driverless cars, who wants to be responsible for something that is controlling a vehicle, but you are not.
But come the crunch the computer just gets off scott free and its your fault, even though you dozed off because it was so boring.

Either drive it or don't, but becoming just someone to take the can back when it all goes wrong is not what it should be about.

I have had reversing sensors on every car I have ever owned. In the early days, they were chromed steel, but now they are plastic.

I had a reversing camera on my previous car and no bleeping sensors. On my current car I have the opposite and find the sensors unreliable. I'd rather have the camera/screen where I can see people walking behind my car when backing, as I've found the sensors tend to be hit and miss in that respect - if you'll excuse the pun. :)

Also the side impact sensors when driving occasionally bleep when I'm not close to a wall etc. but make me jump as they're so loud. In fact I'm more likely to hit something because they're so distracting.

I thought reversing sensors were quite a new invention, what's the oldest car you ever had @Jocko ?

Yep! It makes it so much easier to hit them when you have a good view of them. :loll:

Cameras and sensors on mine, but I'd still rather look just to make sure.
