    Hi All.
I wonder if anyone can advise please.
I have recently planted two apple and two pear trees, I wonder if there is anything i need to be doing over this first season, such as spraying or looking out for any unwanted guests or any caring that needs to be performed...

    regards
    TonyBee.

put a grease ban around the trunks. mulch the base and keep weed free.

If they're only small trees I wouldn't bother with grease bands as their cost will far outweigh any loss of a few apples, and most advice is to actually remove the fruit in the first year, making grease bands rather pointless.

But I would keep an eye open for mildew on the tips of young plants and have some pruners and fungicide ready.

It's just a paper band impregnated with something greasy that you tie around the trunk to stop bug crawling up and settling in. As mentioned, bit pointless for the moment.

Keep an eye on the leaves for any signs of change to indicate other problems and only spray if you need to (for aphids etc)

Rather than start a new subject thought i might revive this as its the same.

Just noticed some small rust type markings appearing on the tips of the leaves, and wondered if at this point i should be spraying, or as daitheplant suggested leave them to natures way..

Weather conditions; No drout, plenty of rain...

    Regards...
