carrot Q

    we've just harvested our carrots & some of them were poking above the ground. the bits that were above the ground are green (part of the carrots, not the tops :lollol:). this may sound silly, but are the green bits safe to eat?

    I've heard (whether true or not) that green potatoes are inedible/give you cancer, so I was wondering if there's any truth in it & if the same applies to carrots?

    Green spuds are toxic. Don't know about green carrots, but if we ever get any we chop off the green bits. Best preventative measure is to earth them up and keep the roots just below the surface soil. My main crop for harvesting this winter are pushing up out of the ground so I'll be going down the row with a dutch hoe and pulling up a bit bit of soil.

    I would repeat Daves answer, the green bits don't taste very nice so they get chopped off.

    thanks for the replies. hubby said the green bits were ok, but i planned to cut them off before i chop them for freezing anyway. you've just confirmed my suspicions
