This is probably in the wrong section, because I never grew it, but we bought some veg from the farm today. Same farm as we always buy from, and we've had carrots from there before. Always ok.

Today I munched on a carrot from there, and I actually had to leave it. It has such an overpowering tangy taste.

Is there any reason that should happen to carrots, or could it be something they've been sprayed with for storage or something? In any case, are they ok to eat like that?

I thought I'd shamelessly bump this one.

Have they been sprayed against carrot fly?

That's alarming. I didn't grow them, I bought them from a local farm. I have no idea what they might have sprayed on them. I don't think I'll be using that farm again.

I have occasionally had carrots that had a rather unpleasant, metallic, chemical taste. Shouldn't the grower allow a specified period of time to elapse between spraying and harvesting? Might be an idea to make a comment to the farm shop just in case they've bent the rules and think nobody will have noticed.

Mr Loli comented on my carrots last year saying "they were too carroty".....which to be fair they were quite strong (early Nantes) but i think our taste buds aren't used to the proper taste of the veg....take a tomatoe for instance or a cabbage...they taste totally different to 'shop' bought ones ....IMO....I do believe alot does depend on the weather when growing....i blame the weather for everything:biggrin:
