    Hello chums:)

I've been given a pack of seed. Their selling point is that they are suitable for autumn sowing, overwintering, then providing a crop very early the next spring. Anyone tried these?

    Cheers...Freddy

Sounds like something I'd be interested in for polytunnel sowing, but although Google tells me that T&M do them, I can't find them on their website or being sold be anybody else.

EDIT: @Freddy After some more Googling it appears T&M were the only seed suppliers that offered this variety but no longer sell it (I think it was once given away as a trial variety). There only appears to be a few packets around to purchase online or in garden centres.

      Hiya Scrungee.

As you say, T&M is the supplier. These were bought from a garden centre in the last week or so. Maybe they aren't as good as they claim, hence the apparent withdrawal ? Still, no harm in sowing a few rows:)

That was my initial reaction, but I only found good reviews and favourable comments online, plus they are highly commended by the RHS. I must look out for them at Wyevale.

Strange then that they've been withdrawn?

I bought some half price seed at Wyevale yesterday, never looked at the veg, most seed for sale were T&M and Sutons/Unwins.

I remember chatter about this on another forum when they were introduced. I only remember one person claimed that they were a success", the rest were disappointed. I've still got a packet, unsown ... I ought to try it really ... do you want me to send it to you @JWK?

Thanks Kristen, you could split the packet up if you want to try too.

Wonder if you had any luck with them @JWK ?

I was reading on another forum someone saying that they grow them in containers and they have done well from March to August. Over-winter only gives small carrots and is hit & miss, but the person said that they continue to grow them as they particularly like the flavour. I'm wondering if I might give them a second look ...

I'm afraid they didn't germinate - which is odd as carrots usually do well in my garden.

yes I seem to recall it was a bit out of date, but I usually keep most seeds a year or two after with no problems (except parsnips of course).

Carrot seed should be viable for 3 years I think ... should have got "some" germination if the seed was even older ... I'm still a bit sceptical about this variety, except for the recent enthusiastic post I saw .... perhaps we should give it One More Try? :)

I grew Sweet Candle this year, regarded as "the best flavour" ... family don't like it; certainly "sweet" but its "carrot flavour" is not very pronounced (or didn't seem so to us) so we're going to switch back to Nantes ... unless someone tells me I'm mistaken?
