Harvested the carrots today as didn't want them to get slugged or rot as it's quite wet up on the lotty.

Do they freeze ok? Was thinking of slicing into circles and blanching then bagging up and freezing?!? Is that right?!

Thought id add a piccy of a couple of the best carrots of the harvest :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

      Scary Snorky! :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
Suspect stoney ground; manured ground? They have forked just a little but I am sure they taste good:). Deep digging, removal of stones, very little if any fertiliser and no manure will help you achieve carrots that havent forked.:)
I eat every carrot raw from early spring to late summer.......delicious.....so cannot advise on freezing etc.

@Verdun there were only a couple like that. I've got a big bucket full of fabulous massive straight carrots lol!!! really pleased! I think a few are like that because the seed were broadcast sown and I didn't thin them out at all so maybe a little overcrowded. Annoyingly I can't remember the type of carrot seed but I know they were the Franchi italian brand. They are lovely and sweet!

You did very well then Snorky ...respect :)
For a bit of fun a few years ago, I grew what I called "crowbar" carrots Snorky. Made deep holes with crowbar and filled with sifted soil. Two seeds per hole removing the weaker one. The result? fantastic HUGE carrots and, surprisingly, they were delicious. I mischievously would pull a carrot or two when there was an " audience" and comment "oh! Just a little 'un". :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
For me gardening is also about FUN even a little mischief:rasp:

Ooh well done they look funky, one on the right looks like a 3 toed foot! Quite gutted I haven't had any miss-shapen ones. I did have a parsnip that had tentacles though.

I'd cut up and blanch for 2 mins, pop in cold water then pat dry with kitchen towel. Some say to open freeze so they don't stick together but I haven't got time or freezer space to do that so I lay them singly in the bags.

I know it's a matter of taste, but carrot is the only vegetable I really dislike after freezing. :noidea:
