Hi folks. My fingers are getting a bit itchy now to sow some carrots. Last year was the first time I tasted 'proper' carrots, and if you aint tried these, you don't know what you're missing ! :) So, is it too soon to sow in the open ground ? Cheers...freddy.

I think you`ll be alright, Freddy, go for it. You up for the cabbage challenge again this year? Just one difference.

" is it too soon to sow in the open ground ?"

May depend on the variety, but my Nantes 2 say they can be planted from March onwards. I've put a cloche over the Carrot and Parsnip zone, but not sown yet (in fairness I only put the cloche on today, so don't think the soil is ready just yet ... but I'll sow ina day or two)

Oh, one thing Dai, I have limited space, and I already have some plants ready to plant out (Greyhound). Soon, I'm gonna sow some golden acre, but of course, I can alter that. Cheers...freddy.

Hi Kristen. What I have are Nantes 2 as well. It says on the packet, that you can sow from feb onwards providing you give some protection, but it doesn't say when you can sow unprotected. I think I'll try a couple of rows. Thanks guys.

Well, I've sown a couple of 4ft rows :) The forecast is good for the rest of the week, the only fly in the ointment is the low night time temperatures. Still, gotta be worth a try, live dangerously ! :) Cheers...freddy.
