What variety are they Micky? You can harvest maincrop carrots in Oct, but then you have to keep them somehwere cool, dark and dry. I just leave mine in the ground and pull them up as and when we need them, last year some of mine kept over winter and whilst a few were nibbled by bugs most of them were still OK till about March.

    Hi Micky!
I do much the same as John and leave most of them over winter. Last year I also dug up a few and stored them in a big bucket filled with dryish grow bag compost. I also stored beetroot using the same method.

They should be alright in the ground all winter.

But not if they will be sitting in a puddle.

Also lift some in the autumn and store them, there will be times in the winter when the soil is too frozen to dig them up

All the above advice is spot on. Just don't be tempted to store dry as you would spuds. Carrots will dry out. I've had a good carrot year as well. And no root fly!
