I don't suppose anyone can recommend a site to get some more unusual window boxes? I was hoping for carved stone or moulded cement. I can't find anything like that... just something a bit unusual.

In Clapham in London. I've scoured the local garden centres but can only find the usual plain ones.

Well, I'm no help to you as I live in West Cheshire but we have members in London and thereabouts who might be able to help......which is why I asked where you lived:coffee:. As an aside could you add it to your personal info and that will help members in the future.:snork:

      Hi Jack

How about a salvage/reclamation yard? Have you checked them out? If I remember rightly there is one in Peckham and one in Sydenham, there's also a place that sells Victoriana house salvage but for the life of me can't remember which road it's on, sorry. Might be worth checking on www.yell.co.uk and phoning in advance to see if they have gardening stuff in stock.
My brother lives down that way, I could ask him if you get stuck.

p.s. might also be worth looking on freecycle or gumtree.

      Cheers
      GG

Do you have a local market? The ones I've been to in the UK (mostly in Sussex and Kent admittedly) have a stall where they sell stone garden ornaments and planters. Or try Gumtree or Freecycle

You probably won't find that many carved stone ones, a Mason probably wouldn't bother to make them as most folk wouldn't pay for the time and cost of the stone that went into it.

Off the top of my head, if I were to do one, the stone would cost anything upto and above £100, then the labour on top of that....

When they say "Stone" what they really mean is Concrete

"The stone window box is made of composite stone from recycled material "

One of my favourite haunts on ebay is the architectural antiques section on ebay. They even have a garden sub category.

You could also try notonthehighstreet and etsy to get something really special.

Ooh, I like this one, I know it's probably concrete but it's the right sort of colour and look.

Thanks everyone, I'll do as you say and keep doing some investigation and try and find some of the yards and markets that might sell them too, I'll keep you posted :)

                    Another option:
Get some stock standard concrete types and cover with a stone cladding of your choice.

Thanks for all the advice everyone. In the end I've gone for some clay fibre ones in a slate grey that look pretty smart. Now to decide what to put in them!

Here ya go, I umm'd and ah'd for ages as I had a fairly clear idea for what I wanted and finally settled on brachyscombe blue on its own for now. I love their pale blue. I might add ivy and or some white flowered trailing fuchsia later in the summer. For now though I want something slightly unusual and not too fussy. I'll post more as they grow. [IMG]
