I looked at this today. It was in a 30cm pot and about two metres tall with multiple stems for about £20.

    Any advice?

Hi Lol, The Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis), is a rainforest palm consisting of a number of closely crowded stems up to about 9m tall. The fronds are rather erect and about 2.4m long with widely separated leaflets. The flowers and fruit appear in successionthroughout the year. They require a sheltered, humid position. The flowering panicles start at the top of the trunk and continue opening successively lower down, after the last one sets fruit the entire stem dies. If it was me I would buy it. David.

    Thanks, David for your input.

There is nothing humid about Algarve, we are very dry (even in rain season) so, unfortunately, I have now decided NOT to buy it ... other than the fact t'other half thought it might take over the place!
