Due to my high fences, Sal, no cats can get in the garden and my cats can't get out. I originally built the fences that high to keep my cats safe and from the danger of being run over if they were out and crossing roads.:snork:

No thanks. As I said, I have a dog who is obsessed by the cats and wants to chase them. I wouldn't want to encourage this and try to get them closer together.

I also don't like cats pooping in my garden, so I definitely don't want to give them a litter tray to clean up after someone else's pet. I am sure people wouldn't appreciate my dog pooping in their garden - same as I don't appreciate someones cat doing the same in mine!

As for a cat deterring others, I have this problem in the first place due to my neighbour putting food out for cats (she doesn't own any!). And a cat does not deter them, as only more and more come. They are all (upto five cats) happy being in the same area and interacting with one another - so it really won't deter them, as it seems to have attracted more. It's like all the cats within a 2 mile radius is hanging around now!

On another point, I don't want my pond fish harassed either.

I also don't have rats in my garden, so the cats really are no benefit. I would like to however try to encourage birds, so the cats are still only being a problem really.

We had a little Burmese who was the same, she would sit on the windowsill and growl at passing dogs. If we let her out she would wait in the bushes to ambush them. Next door had a big lassie style sheepdog, well our cat would walk past it into the neighbour's house and eat it's food. Then amble back, the sheepdog then pretended to chase our cat, carefully timing it's run and bark to make it look like it had chased her out of it's garden and not get too close :loll:

Its also been seen in the field next to Morrisons in town. Someone walked upto it while it was sat in the hedge cleaning itself. It just growled at them till they backed off.

That's *because* of the cats visiting your neighbour ;)

Nope, it's just the area we're in. It's just not wildlife friendly.
If you go further into the City though, then you can get some big rats, I saw one dead by the road and it was massive! And possibly the farm a short walk away may well have some, and perhaps that's why we don't have any (because they are all there!).

Armandii - we've had a few mysteriously disappear before :(

Which doesn't mean to say it's a cat, Elizabeth.:dunno: :snork: Cat's are general pretty hopeless fishers as they're too finicky about getting wet.:cat-kittyandsmiley: One of my cat, Jenny, fell into the pond, while I was by the pond, when crossing the Bog garden and was not amused for the rest of the day. There are other usual suspects other than cats.:snork:

Never seen any cats in my pond , anyway
my point of logs was this one.
The neighbor cat comes in my garden through the log I put , I give the left over of my spoiled cats , she eat and leave .
since i start to feed her , she never left any present in my garden or damage the plants .

this is not a solution , but one of .... , you can perhaps extend the high of you fences , with chicken mesh and stop them , but for sure one of your neighbor will complain .....

what I`m say , is that if you want to win you have to find an alternative solution.

Yes, I think I am going to try water jet's to try to deter them.

Had a text from daughter the other day. "Dad I saw a black and white cat sitting on your drive this morning."
I think there was a typo and she missed out an "h". :snork:
