I found this on a fuschia when Iwas clearing the patio for the builders. It's an elephant head hawk moth caterpillar (I think)

Ooh he's lovely! Had a huge green one in my garden on Saturday, with a big spike on his bum! I've never seen a caterpillar like it before and after a google I surmised that it was also a moth. The kids protected him from the cats (although he was doing pretty well himself, thrashing around with his spike) and we released him into next doors privet hedge. So wish I had a camera.
Whereabouts in Cornwall are you Celia?

    Hi Celia,
I'm quite a distance, down by Falmouth. Camelfords looking great now, the kids did some of the Camel Trail a few weeks ago, and I was shocked at how much the towns changed. Wish Falmouth would pull it's socks up in the regeneration department.
