    Hey all,

My two cats are both quite old now - 14 years. One of them has arthritus in her legs so can't jump fences. Anyway they both poo in our garden (started in winter and haven't gotton round to sorting it out) I used to have a litter tray in the garden in the summer which worked, but I had to take the tray away as it kept getting water logged!

Now the garden is covered in poo, and I want to get it all sorted before summer and try to sow some grass seeds where the grass has died. I'm gonna get a dog house and put a litter tray in that and train the cats to use it.

But the only thing is, how can I keep them off the grass whilst i'm training them? I can't think of anything big enough to use - any ideas would be helpful!

    ta!

Have you got any holly bushes? If so, scatter holly leaves over the lawn. It might help a bit.

Thanks for your reply. No holly bushes in our garden. Also we do have 2 bunnies who like to play on the lawn in the evenings, so need something thats not going to hurt them either.

I can tell you what doesn't work.
electronic scarers, citrus peel, any of the commercial deterrents, Silent Roar, automatic water guns, small stones, large stones - the list is endless.

What you must NOT use includes
mousetraps, red pepper, cayenne pepper, BB guns.

    Good luck.

We purchased an RSPB approved ultrasonic scarer and it seems to be working, albeit in a fairly limited geography. What I'm doing to augment it is where I find cat poo I clear it up and dust the area liberally with pepper dust. I actually believe that it is a constant battle against them. My neighbours refuse to come round and clear up their pets' mess which I think is as irresponsible as not clearing up dog poo. I admit to the occasional flinging of the cat poo back over the fence to them. Their cat, their problem.
