    Hi,
I've plated some cauliflowers and they are only small at this time however the leaves are being eaten by something. I have looked on the leaves but can not see anything. Suggestions as to what and a remedy please.
    Thanks

    Hi Andy,

Its more than likely birds, pigeons are the main suspects. Have you got them covered with netting?

    The other candidates are slugs.

Birds tend to peck the outer margins of the leaves, taking semi circular bites. Slugs attack anywhere on the plant, ususally going up the stem and aiming for the tender growing tip - but they will leave tell tale slime trails.

They are cevered with netting no access for birds, and there is no sign of any slime

Its difficult to see clearly, the one with the broken stem looks like slug damage, tthe photo showing holes in the leaf look like they were made by fleabeetle or leafminer. SLugs are a pain, but you can stop them with pellets, fleabeetle is more of a problem and will get much worse if untreated, you can use derris dust to kill them. Once the plants get bigger they are not so vunerable.
