    Evening all.

My mower is now about a year old. When I first got it it cut brilliantly. Its gradually decayed over the year and I must confess I didn't really pay much attention until I realised that my lawn wasn't so much cut as ripped.

I rolled it over (with the power off of course) and checked the blade. It was as blunt as a very blunt stick.

I've had a go at sharpening it. I don't have an angle grinder or even an old fashioned sharpening iron, so I used a file. Its not the best finish but it certainly feels a lot sharper than it was.

      Hi clueless,

Could you not take the blade off and take it somewhere to sharpen it? I take mine to work and use the bench grinder on mine.

I check the blade on my rotary mower every 4-6 weeks and just give the edge a tickle with a file or coarse emery paper. I generally take the blade off and check the balance before refitting it.

I looked at mine this morning............oh dear I am a so and so for catching it on small stones and to prove it the blade is in a terrible state, nothing short of a new blade will do I think. If not I shall have to get my son to grind this one down to get an edge!:)
