Why am I only getting buds on the end of the branches? What can I do to make it flourish again. It’s in a large pot (repotted a couple of years ago)and is about 7 years old. I used get get loads of cherries from it but very few now, many thanks.

Hello Bron, I don't think that a cherry tree is really suited to long-term container growing. You've done really well to keep it that healthy for 7 years! Is it an option to plant it in the ground? Even supposedly dwarf cherry trees get quite big but I seem to remember Morellos being suitable for planting against a wall and trained as a fan.
If not, wait until you've harvested this year's fruit and prune during a dry spell in summer.

Thanks for your reply, do you know how far back I should prune it if I go down that route?, I may try planting it and see if that helps it.

I really wouldn't like to say ...with thin stems like that there's a chance that they won't shoot, just wither. What you could fairly safely do is completely cut out any thin, crossing stems right back to the trunk. Sorry I can't be more help :dunno: Perhaps other members will be along with a different approach ...:)
