Hi, I am looking for some help with buying a cherry tree, I am looking for a tree to replace the very old and rotten apple tree that was dug out of my garden earlier this year. I am looking for a self pollinating cherry tree (if there is one) that produces a mid season cherry crop. Please does anyone have any recommendations? [IMG]

Celeste crops in early July and is suitable for patio growing, it is self fertile and a good eating cherry. Lapins Cherokee has large black fruit and crops in late July. try this website for more ideas: www.trees-for-life.com

Thanks, do you know if the Cherry Summer Sun variety is self pollinating too?

It is, the fruit is ready late July and it's suitable for colder more exposed areas. (their words not mine, just in case it dies!)

Thanks, does anyone know of any good suppliers of fruit trees? I will need to get the tree delivered so any recommendations would be great, especially ones that can actually tell you in advance what day it will be delivered on rather than tell you on the day of arrival - not so great when you need to plan to be at home in the morning to collect it!

Does anyone have a Morello Cherry? We are putting in an order for two or three fruit trees in a few days and are still deciding which ones to go for. We are thinking of a cherry, plum and peach (or Apricot - or both!!!)

I have had one in my last 3 gardens. My present one is 3 years old on dwarfing stock so it will end up 6-10' high.
They have lovely delicate white blossom and usually naturally form a globe shape, or they are very amenable to being fan trained if you have a wall. It's then easier to protect the cherries from birds.
The cherries are for cooking and are excellent bottled or made into liqueur. When the liqueur.
is ready you can dip the cherries into dark chocolate and have a Christmas feast. You'll need an eating cherry too though. [IMG]
Did you know that there is a new peach out that is reported to be highly resistant to peach leaf curl, it is called' Avalon Pride'. Not in the highest league for flavour but Peter Seabrook reckons it's OK. [IMG]
