I moved into my new home in January a flat with a long skinny balcony.... the space I am working with is 20ft long by 6ft wide and I fully intend to make the most of the only private outside space I've got. This is the beginning, I've a long way to go please excuse the bad pics it was a very dull day!

      The plan:

      Decking
I'm planning to deck the whole floor with click together decking tiles like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36-x-30cm...4179?pt=UK_Paving_Decking&hash=item3a7e1849f3

      Trellis
I'm planning on placing expanding trellis along the whole of the balcony fence/railings. I will be putting trellis hook/plant holders along the trelis.

      Furniture
I already have a rattan bistro table and chairs for 2 but I need more seating so I will be investing in some more rattan seating to be placed along the house. I plan on having an area for a BBQ aswell... nothing fancy just a small kettle type BBQ.

      Plants
I'm planning on having a mixed flower/kitchen garden and already have some flowers outside; Panies in baskets, primula and my mixed bulb tub from this thread: http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/layered-bulb-tubs.2264/ which is being split the Cyclamen will go into 4 small individual ceramic pots and the Croci and Tulips will be split between 2 large ceramic pots.

Layered bulb tub as it is now:

I've made a start with my veg planting:

I have cucumber seeds planted I hope to grow them in my mini green house. I have sweet peppers (frigetello) and 3 varieties of tomatoes: Tumbling Tom (which I will be growing in hanging baskets), Roma and Money Maker (which will be planted in pots along with the peppers amongst flowers along the edge of my balcony). Flowers still to be planted: Viola, Californian Poppies, Marigolds and Giant Sunflowers (I'm planting 3 in big containers with smaller flowering plants grown around the stems). I have a terracotta strawberry jar and I'm still debating whether to plant Strawberries in it or flowers or herbs in it... I think herbs will be of most use to me

      Other bits and bobs
I have a young son so I want to put a sand and water table outside for him :) I want to put some solar powered lighting along the fence. And lastly I want to hang some bird feeders up and dot random quirky little decorations like sun catchers and windmills about the place.

      Watch this space..... ;)

You're certainly making the most of the space and it's a good sized balcony Cheryl. :dbgrtmb: I'd think twice about the decking though, especially with a youngster. After time it tends to get slimy and slippery from rain and dampness and becomes difficult to keep clean.
