I would have thought all Garden centres/nurseries would sell them, I would ask next time, sometimes I can't find things for looking :D

woolworths and wilkinsons also sell them..but you can also make some plant food with nettles in water ..keep a lid on the bucket for a couple of weeks so it rots and ferments and its as good as chicken pellets..i also make comfrey plant food..

It used to be sold in my local stores as 6X (not the beer). Mixewd with molases or something. The residents could smell it for streets around!

I am always a bit wary of pellets in case they come from battery farmed hens- not only because of the treatment of the chickens but also all the hormones and other drugs fed to them, don't know if the pellets would contain traces.

Liz you can get organic ones, but all those hormones might explain my enormous bananas.

    Thanks all.

    Told you I was thick!!

More likely that I haven't actually looked for them before.

I have made some lovely smelly liquid from comfrey leaves and used that watered down and put another load of leaves in to rot down.

Another question is what can I do with the gooey residue thats left, can it go into the compost bin or what? ;)

I use chicken pellets round the garden on the flower borders.
Only problem I found was they the didn't half pong.We kept thinking we had trodden in something, and the other thing we found was we couldn't keep our dog out of the flower borders,as she wanted to know what was causing the pong.

Strange - the ones I use have no odour and are easy to handle.

We got ours in tubs from the local garden centre, but didn't notice the smell until the rain had caused them to dissolve. My Husband forgot to work them into the ground, around the plants, but once they had gone down into the soil the smell went.

And they do work as we have some great flowers out this year to prove it.

We have also used them on the Allotment for the first time this year, with some good results
