I think a lot of us use chicken pellets as a feed for veg etc.

Recently I've been wondering where these come from.
    My guess is battery hens.
So I buy free range eggs but use chicken pellets on my garden, does that sound a bit hypocritical?

Commercial Free range sometimes looks as bad as battery:frown:,i bought pellets last yr and wondered the same, eggs are being sold for 69p per half dozen in home bargains so i suppose pellets are another source of income for battery farms, seems a shame that their poop is being sold for more than their eggs though :cry3:x

Depends. I think free range eggs taste better, but maybe you are buying for moral reasons.

If you go the fully Organic route you then need to find Organic Chicken Poo Pellets - that won't be contaminated with antibiotics and the like. A lottery win would help with that project ...

I find it too difficult to get the chickens to drop their poo in the right places! :heehee:

It just requires a bit of ingenuity:

Luckily we have duck eggs from one of Mrs L's colleagues and chicken eggs from a chap at the pub.
I suspect the pellets are floor sweepings from the battery farms though:(

My thoughts are also about the cost of chicken pellets.
Is it my imagination or are they getting more expensive, I thinking of going down the road of using fish blood and bone rather than these as a bucket goes virtually nowhere.

i haven'y noticed them getting significantly more expensive. They go up each year, but in line with everything else. At times they seem expensive, but I stock up when they are on offer. I have considered some of the online suppliers, who are cheaper, but I have no idea if they cut their Chicken Poo with Talcum Powder :heehee:

Am I missing something there Sheal?

It says £3.50 or £6.95 delivery, but doesn't say how much the stuff in the tub costs.

We dont actually have a sensible Wilkinsons here anyway, its in the town centre, which no one in their right mind goes to without being press ganged, due to congestion and parking charges.

Pete it's £4 for 7kg unless you live here on the island, I paid £7 for mine not delivered..... so called shipping cost. B&Q sell them as well for around the same price.
