:dbgrtmb: Nice question about chicken poo now!

I've been putting my coop contents into a compost bin since last autumn.

Will the stuff at the bottom be ok for digging into the veg bed now, if I open the door at the bottom?

    It's the hemcore type bedding.

don't know what hemcore bedding is. But I do know my dad used chicken poo in his gardens and they did wonderful.

If you've had the chicken manure stored since last Autumn, Victoria, it will have "gentled out" by now and will be fit to add to your veg bed whenever you want to.

That's great, thank you. How long should it sit to 'gentle out' roughly?

Redstar, I'm hoping it'll have the same effect on my garden!

Hi Victoria, it all comes down to the the bedding/chicken manure ratio of mix, but six months would be more than enough for it to "gentle out" and become usable for your veg plot. It's high in potash, nitrogen, potassium and will have all the necessary trace elements to make your crops grow well.

    Hi Vicky,

Yes its very good when its rotted  I'm at home this weekend so i'm going to take up the offer of free pheasant poo from the game farm behind us. I'll spread it everywhere except where the parsnips and carrots are going, makes the roots fork.

My dad would have a hill pile of chicken manure from the chicken coop. During the growing season of the veggie gardens, if one of the tomatoes was eaten by a night creature, he would throw the rest right on top of the chicken manure pile. And guess what----next spring tomatoe plants would be sprouting out all over the manure pile. My dads property was in OHIO, USA, in an area that the winters can get 10 degrees below zero.
