I was shocked to hear on our local radio about a survey that was done asking young school children where veg came from.

    Some of the answers

Peas... they grow in tins at Tesco
    Cabbage.... Whats that.
    Potatoes... Not sure
    Carrots..... Out of the freezer
Any veg ... Mmmmm don't no but babies come from Mothercare and Daddy lives at the pub. LOL

And the current education system :(

I know its not directly related to knowing where a vegetable comes from (well, maybe it is if they did Science GCSE?), but

"At 175 state schools, not one pupil was entered for all five of the traditional subjects [the new English Baccalaureate - A*-C in five core subjects - maths, English, two science qualifications, a foreign language and either history or geography]"

"just 16% of 16-year-olds achieved the Baccalaureate last year."

    and

"In more than half of state secondaries (1,600), fewer than 10% of pupils gained the necessary GCSEs, and 270 of England's state secondaries scored zero on this measure.

The new data shows that about 25,000 16-year-olds were in the 175 schools where no pupil was entered for all five of the subjects which count towards the Bacc.
    "

The quotes are from the BBC website

My kids know where Watercress comes from. They watch daddy check out the price in Tesco & then pick it from the stream behind the store.

Saved £1 a bunch this week.

I once heard a child ask his mummy in the supermarket "how do you make pastry?"
Mum answered - "It just comes in a packet"

      Hmmmm.
