Just looked in the book and it say 21C is ideal.

Graph of sensor in the boiler room, where the chilli seed trays are currently, is fluctuating between 25C-32C (depending on when boiler is on, and door open/closed)

Do you think that is too hot?

I think it may be, but you'll soon find out. How long have they been there?

As you know, I use a seed sprouter and just have it on the kitchen worktop. Ours germinated in 3 - 4 days and on day 6 we potted most of them on. Those are now in the lounge doing quite well and being turned twice a day because they very quickly lean towards the window. All of them survived transplanting and are, at the moment, four to a pot - not enough free table surface to get individual pots.

These photos were the slightly slower seeds and this is the morning of day 8. Sorry about the quality of the photos but I just took them by torchlight so that I didn't wake Mrs S.

We've had somewhere around 88% germination and we may start the next batch off soon.

I thought you were meant to wait until March time to sow chilli seeds? Or is this for plants that will be kept indoors all year round?

I do mine at room temp using the paper towel method. I usually sow too many and end up chucking most of the seedlings anyway.

Where on earth do you make Mrs.S sleep:huh:

I do mine in January too. Chilli plants respond well to pinching out, so as long as you have the space I reckon that it's the way to go. To a certain extent this is because the ones that I grow take longer to mature.
I use this link if I'm unsure as to the time to maturity.

Right, I'm officially sulking. 3-4 days?! Mine have been in a heated propagator for 2 weeks and done diddly squat.
Might move them out to some moist kitchen paper instead

I soak mine for 24/36 hours first and discard the floaters.

Pepperocino and pablano ancho. As I recall, they had terrible germination rates last time I tried so probably just duff seed :(

I germinate mine on the heat pad in the dark with the boiler & it gets up to 30' in there ; it does cool down over night to about 15'. I would say its a little too hot but so far this year Ive got 16 out of 20 plants germinating, the newer seed popping up after about a week ; some of the older / unknown seed has taken 2-3 weeks so it may not be the heat thats slowing things down.

          @Jungle Jane
We always sow our chilli seeds this time of year as they take quite a long time to come to maturity. We put them into the propagator in the greenhouse about April/May, depending on the weather. From there we move them to the benching or floor depending on the size of the plant.

The very hot ones we grow are a late ripener and usually don't ripen until August and carry on through to Christmas. These were two young plants last year in August (we have older plants as well)

We live in a bungalow and most of the doors are glass panelled - toilets and bathroom aren't :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
