Thanks for starting the new thread @JWK

I wanted to overwinter some plants this year and of the seven I brought in, two have died. I cut them back but instead of putting them somewhere cool I left them in the sunroom. The locotos seem to like this, they have put on quite a bit of new growth and look rather healthy.

So I have 1 aji limon, 1 aji mochero, 1 aji norteno and 2 locotos assuming they make it.

I'm going to buy some plug plants this year to complement them, probably sweet or not so hot ones as I have so many dried and frozen hot chillis, they will probably last me another year.

Im trying to tally up a list of sweet pepper varieties to try in the garden. I grew some unknown as plugs and have saved them for the winter, but they didnt do well enough so I think I may cull them and try again with more information.

Any sweet peppers anyone can recommend? Looking for
Early and Tall plants (to get over the fences shade!) for use as a salad veggie in particular.

This is what ive found that may be interesting:
Gypsy F1 (tested for greenhouses only)
Black Knight F1 (claims of it being very tall interested me)
Ace F1 (also only saw greenhouse)
      Sweet Chocolate
      Napia
      Jimmy Nardello

      Anyone tried any of these?
Sorry for the info scrounging! Id love to hear of you alls experiences.

      Edit: Two more
      Corno Di Toro Rosso
      Pritavit
      both tall

Gypsy is my first choice but I've only ever grown it in a greenhouse. Sweet Etuida has done OK outdoors for me. If you could give it some protection, like a cloche, it would do better.

Never tried many sweet peppers outside, mostly because the ones I did try just stood still.
Had reasonable success with mini peppers outside last year, but grown in pots and moved outside in mid June.
By the way, they were grown from supermarket fruit.

Perhaps I should just cover my whole garden in clingfilm or something :thud:

Ive heard the smaller banana peppers do better which makes sense. If you were going for heat you could grow tiny tiny absurdly hot ones... but my tounge is too delicate :cry3:

I do have a little Bequinho chili that seems to be flowering at 15 cm tall. Perhaps it will become a bonsai.

We're still picking our ShineyHybrids and they should be continuing into February or later. I'm not taking orders for Nagas any more so shall only sow more ShineyHybrids at the end of this month.

We're still picking Shishito chillies but the plants are getting quite mouldy now.
I grow milder varieties as although I like a bit of spice my internals are starting to disagree!

A few of my @shiney hybrids, which I call Shineybrids, have germinated. Of the 14 varieties I have planted, they are the first to pop up:)

Nice and early! I think I sowed mine on the 14th January last year

I couldn't help myself and bought more chilli seeds :wallbanging:

i managed to free up a bit more space in the garage for seedlings under lights so might not go the route of buying plug plants now.

I've been checking my notebook for last year and I sowed my peppers on January 7th then and they germinated a week later. However, I'm thinking of sowing them a couple of weeks later this year, maybe around the 20th.

Still trying to find the ideal sowing date.

A couple overwintered King of the North.
                        Amy,
                        Lipstick,
                        Friggitello,
Kapia and a couple others no doubt.

Kinda into pickling so need a few types of sweet peppers. And the odd Jalepeno too.

How did each of them do? Suprisingly little information for avid Googlers on pepper cultivars.
Hehe, sorry for the bother :rolleyespink:

You may consider constructing a covered (glazed ) structure in a suntrap , dedicated to your peppers. A tall(er) coldframe, but hot.

King of the North was ok big bell peppers, green. The sun vanished from July 1st onwards so they didnt get a good season.
Friggitellos were good greenhouse and outside.
Fancy a change so the others will be new to me this season. :fingers crossed:
