Just thought that I would share this with you..............

    Adrienne Rewi Online

Having visited NZ (and Christchurch particularly) a few times it probably means more to me, but the images in this blog are really poignant. This post in particular is sobering................

Adrienne Rewi Online: Bexley - A Christchurch Suburb Without a Future

Makes me realise that crappy winter weather ain't so bad!

This link (Christchurch Quake Map - Most recent 25 shakes) is interesting too. Twenty five 'quakes since the fifteenth. Select the largest 25 option to see the enormity of the September 2010 earthquake.

It is Ziggy, and this is a country that had allowed for (or thought that it had) earthquakes.
They've been told that the aftershocks could continue for up to twenty years!
Photo below shows the effects of soil liquifaction on a Christchurch suburb............

      Blimey,

We get a slight effect of it in West Bay, not caused by earth tremors but by the traffic on an alluvial substrate.

Has the effect of making walls tilt all the way down West Bay road & the houses crack, doesn't matter what the foundations are like. Can't do anything if the ground goes spongy.

I could quite happily retire there, but OH won't go any further than the Canary Islands.
My godparents were over here at the time of the earthquake - their home was heavily damaged.
