Now I know I had a bit to much beer last night, but I swear on my mothers grave I saw Batman and Robin pass by me while I was waiting for the bus home. It was so realistic:lollol:
I was invited by my old workmates to their christmas do.
Kickoff at 14:30 in the Exhibition in York.
Nice roaring fair helped the beer go down and by 17:30 we were ready for the pre booked Indian.
Delightful place called Indian Carte were ready for all 16 of us when we arrived.
I have to say the meal was very, very good, service was wonderful and the place was spotlessly clean. A real delight.
After really, really stuffing myself silly with great food and Kingfisher beer we moved on to the mucky duck (White Swan)
and it was there I just could not take any more and had to take my leave of a great bunch of guys and a wondeful evening.
I now have an invite to attend the next years do as well.
Bit tender this morning but the coffee helps
Bread is on the raise, sun is shining, still have ice on the road outside. Have a great day everybody.

How lovely of them to invite you capney. I'm glad you had a good time. You couldn't have had too much if you managed to get the bus home! Not so sure about Batman & Robin though:)

Any more parties for you to go to? Trouble I find these days is that it all seems great on the night but then it takes a week to get over it:0 Sounds like a really good time was had.

    cheers

So far this was the only party. Probable the best.
Oh yes, on the bus ride home I sat at the front of the bus just incase I had to abanden quickly!
    Busy day around here today.
I have started a loaf of bread in Celias (101) bread maker, back at 16:00 to take it out.
My oven is heating up to cook my rolls and loaf....
    Its all go being retired....
Jack (82)across the road has slipped on the Ice but thankfully appears OK
Rose (91)across the road fell onto her hip the other day and is in hospital.
We hear today that she has a hairline fracture so hopfully will be OK. Not always the case with broken hips.
And I still say I saw Batman and Robin at the bus stop....
    Sun is still shining..

    Hi again,
Ummm still on about Batman eh????:)

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about your neighbours. That's why I hate the snow/ice. Glad Jack appears OK but I hope someone is keeping an eye on him. Also, Rose - she has to be careful. These seemingly little accidents can escalate quickly at her age & being in hospital isn't always the best place if you know what I mean. I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of them.

The sun is shining here too although it's quite cold.

    cheers

I usually dont go for a lot of curry, I prefer to taste the food rather then kill my tastebuds:cool: I think three years in the Far East taught me to love proper Asian/chinese food and Its a delight to find somewhere like the Indian Carte
We went to another Indian a couple of years ago and the difference between that and the one we visited last night is quite amazing. I suppose Indian have regional food variations as do the chinese.

I was told by an Indian friend that what they cook in the resturants for us isn't what thay would normally eat at home. I dont know how much truth there is in it though.:D 02

I've heard exactly the same 02 & Capney. The Indian and Chinese people adapted their food to the tastes of the west. It does vary so much from restaurant to restaurant and take-away to take-away. I can love a certain dish at one place and not really like it at another.

I would love to try a really traditional dish but then again the recipes can vary from region to region even in the original countries.

Were you in York Rob when you tasted the more like the original? We love York, have been a few times even on our honeymoon:) Not for a few years though and I remember one place we went to twice for an Indian but the name escapes me.

    cheers

It is true, what we have in Indian and Chinese restaurants is not what they would eat at home, all are made up for the western pallate. I still enjoy both even though they are not authentic.
Nothing can beat real Satay from a Malaysian street hawker though.:gnthb:

I have to agree with all that has been stated about regional variations. Even chinese/Indian variations exist in this country.
To be honest, the best Indian meal I ever had was in Penang.
I was invited by an Indian co worker to go for a family meal. I was impressed by both the meal and the respect shown to me by the two daugters was quite amazing.

    This brings back memories...
A short distance from Butterworth in Malaysia was a makan stall
This guys curry pot was the best.
It could hold about 5 gallons with a fire under it all the time.
He would never empty it but just top it up with fresh ingredients as required. With a bowl of rice, a couple of king prawns and glass of water it was sheer bliss..

 I found this about the origins of the curry
:D Not sure how true this is, but it sounds right for the Victorians...!!!:(

:) There are so many variations from around the world now, there must be one to suit every pallet just about now Robert.. I do like a curry where you can actually taste what you are eating as well as the spices.....
I like hot chillies, but they don't have to be eaten only in a curry or totally mask the flavours with their heat....!

A lot of folk are confused..
Why eat hot spicy food in the hot country?
Reason is the hot spicey stuff opens up the pores of the skin and leaks sweat. This sweat then condenses in the heat and cools the surface of the skin.
Cold drinks in hot conditions tend to close up the pores and make you even hotter..
    Simple physics really.
