Seed potatoes arrived this morning. (Maris Peer)

How to chit them (this time of the year) ?

I'm going to plant them 3 to a Marshalls Gro-sack, and 4-to a very-large-pot which I used for the early Spring ones.

And I reckon to keep them outside until it starts getting chilly, then move them to the cold greenhouse, and into the (somewhat less cold) conservatory as we get nearer to Christmas.

Ideas and suggestions would be appreciated, ta.

Hi Kristen. Regarding 'chitting', I reckon just plant them as they are. It's been shown that it doesn't really help anyway (although I still do it....just in case:)) As for where to keep them, I reckon you're spot-on. Good luck with that, it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
    Cheers...freddy.

I've never tried it, but I go along with Freddy's advice. I read on another site that mid August was the latest planting date.

I'm sure a grow-sack with its mass of tumbling green leaves will be much appreciated in the conservatory

Hehehe ... its not used in the Winter, not warm enough. Tends to store garden furniture and the like, so I'll chance my arm that something-for-the-pot will be appreciated :)

I'm planning to do the same, plant for a christmas harvest but isn't it a little early right now? Its about 20 weeks to Christmas...how long do they need at this time of the year..I thought they only needed 12-14 weeks from planting to harvest...or do they need much longer as its cooler?

    Steve...:)

No. They need a 60 day (I think) break between lifting and re-sowing, and need to be planted by about mid-August (I think x 2!!), so you would have needed to lift late May, or early June latest.

And no new information came forth after that date :what:

Did Kristen get his new spuds, did JWK get his roasties ?

Did Steve ever get around to planting them ?

Tune in next week for another exiting episode of soapy potatoes:heehee:
