Hi all, wondering if anyone knows what type of Chrysanthemums are on sale in January and in flower. I saw some lovely deep maroon coloured ones in my local M & S and wanted to know if they're forced and can be left outside in a pot, or are they tender and need to be indoors or kept in a greenhouse. They don't look like they will not grow tall, they're about 25cm in height. Any advice would be appreciated.

They must be forced or even grown abroad, they won't be hardy and are just indoor pot plants.
Possibly treated with a growth regulating hormone to keep them short.

Thanks for letting me know! Do you know, if they are to be grown indoors, will they flower again if they are cut back after flowering?

The chrysanths they sell in supermarkets are grown indoors under ideal conditions so that you buy a lovely plant.
But they are actually quite hardy.
If you keep yours indoors until the weather warms up you can harden it off outside for a couple of weeks then plant it outside and it should flower late summer and autumn.
I've done it several times. The clump below was from one pot.
There were actually 5 small plants in the pot.
In late Spring I separated them and planted them out and this is the result.
The colours are weird as I took the photo when we had a near total eclipse on 16/10/2017
I noticed the actual deep-rust colour of the flowers looked almost fluorescent so I took a pic -

Thanks for showing me that. They look great! It's really helpful to know this. I think I will get down to the supermarket to get some! Thank you for your advice!

They lasted in the garden about 3 years until we had a very severe winter and that was the end of them.
        Good luck :)

Thanks for the warning! Sorry to hear it lasted 3 years, but not bad in my books. I will definitely buy them now, it's worth a try...
