Some may remember me saying once that nearly all my attempts at growing citrus plants end up with the leaves dropping off over the winter.

Well I went to our local Nottcuts garden centre this morning just for a look around and I came across some lemon plants, really dark green and with lemons that really dwarfed the plants.
The plants had been pruned and some quite thick stems had been cut off. Somehow I couldn't see that plant and those lemon actually having grown in an 8 in pot.

Anyway in a rack at the side there was a typed information sheet it started, " Citrus are evergreen plants and as such should not lose their leaves in winter, if they do its because they are being kept in unsuitable conditions"

I then wandered over to the reduced items, (where I buy most of my plants), there in front of me was four largish lemon plants none of which had a leaf on it.
They were reduced to £39, an absolute bargain I dont think.
I did think of moving the instuction leaflet. [IMG] :D

Slap hands Nottcutts!! :D You have to laugh, or cry.....

We got a real bargain at a GC today - a pear tree, a comice, for £15 - a nice-looking specimen, which is now planted, staked and tied with a suitable black rubber-band type tie..... We're very pleased! :D

    Hi Pete and Dendy!!!!

I bought a citrus at the Eden Project May 2005 - was Ã?£4.99 and a real bargain as there were 2 in the pot!!!! Anyway - they are both being battered in the car port this winter, still have some leaves and are going strong. (even after being slugged totally last spring!!!) and I have 2 little lemons on them. They are about 10 and 20 inches high. .... and I have planted some pips from my G & T..... hoping for a Ginebra Gordonii just like Nik!!!! [IMG] [IMG]

Funny you should say that HB, I have a couple of Clementine plants in pots outside and they look quite good, better than when I used to put them in the greenhouse anyway.
