    Hi,
I have a field which is becoming a mass of dock leaves etc.
It has been suggested that I plant barley to overcome the weeds, is that true.?
Any suggestions of a plant which would "take over" and then could be ploughed in next year.?

    thx
    Howard

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner:sign0016:

Don't think theres any particular crop that will get rid of perenial weeds, probably best spray the whole thing off and start from scratch. Use a systemic weedkiller that will get right down into the couch grass which will probably be there too:)

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If barley could defeat dock leaves and other weeds, I don't think there'd be much of a herbicide industry because it wouldn't be commercially viable for companies like Monsanto to just develop for the casual home gardener.

If you want to grow a competitive crop in an attempt to suppress weeds, potatoes is probably your best bet.
