    Hi All
I have cleared out the greenhouse, will it be ok to compost the old tomatoe plants that are covered in blight or would it be best to take them down the tip.

    Thanks

    Dave

Don't compost them, take them down the tip or burn them.

Hi Dave.. I wouldn't compost them as they are diseased, I would either burn them or to the tip.. I would also scrub the greenhouse out afterwards to try to prevent it coming back the following year or spreading to anything else in there... One needs to be careful in greenhouses as all sorts of nasty things can over winter in the corners in there & then spring back to life the following season, only to ruin your plants again...!!!

    Hi
I thought that would be the case, I scrubbed out the whole greenhouse last winter with Jeyes fluid and removed all soil and still the blight returns each year although I manage ti fend it off until si late in the year that it does not affect the crops its a shame though as I have a potatoe growing in a Marshalls sack and wanted to put that in the greenhouse over winter and maybe have a few new potatoes for Christmas dinner.

    Thanks

    Dave

    .

    Hi Dave,

This winter try drenching your Greenhouse soil with copper sulphate/ Bordeaux mixture and washing/spraying the inside of the glass etc as well.

Make sure you are well covered and wear a face mask.

Jeyes is phenol based, not sure it has any control over blight!

    Cheers!

Made by Vitax, you should be able to buy Bordeaux Mixture in any garden centre, however, if yours doesn't have any then, like just about everything else, it's available on Amazon!
