I want to get a Clematis, can you advise me on which one to get? I would prefer one that has the longest flowering season as its to climb over a small pergola that already has a new Jasmine and Bougonville just planted, and some sweet peas too.

I know that some people like to grow maybe two together so one stops flowering and the other starts, and I will use that idea on a pergola I'm yet to build, so I just need the one long flowering clematis.

I have no preference for colour or size of flower etc, can you advise me?

    Many thanks.

    Steve...:)

Hi Steve - fellow Cumbrian; although I now live in Yorkshire.

I do think that you may be over furnishing your arch, but that is assuming your Bougainvillea does well in the North ?

My choice would be the late summer flowering Perle d' Azur.

Steve, you are better off treating your Bougainvillea as a houseplant, it will not survive the winter outdoors. As for a Clematis I would go for C. tangutica.:thumb:

Here is a site which lists most of the Clematis including the one David recommended.

I have just arrived back from the Greek islands and you can't move for Bougainvillea over there !:D Its an incredible plant , but as mentioned I have never seen it grown outdoors in the UK. Only wish you could.
